At Long Island Guardian Grants, we stand firmly committed to supporting those who tirelessly serve our community, often without recognition or reward. Our dedication is directed towards an overlooked segment - the volunteer first responders, comprised of ambulance crews and firefighters, who keep us safe every day.
Originally, the Employer Assisted Housing Program was launched by the Long Island Housing Partnership, Inc. (LIHP), an independently owned and operated 501(c)(3) non-profit housing agency, to enable businesses to recruit and retain employees amidst high living costs. The program traditionally paired employer contributions with public funding to help employees purchase and refurbish homes on Long Island.
Unfortunately, this program could not assist our volunteer first responders, primarily because their volunteer status complicated the required "matching" of contributions which would ultimately fall on tax payers. Recognizing this gap, we've taken action to change the narrative.
At Long Island Guardian Grants, we've established a dual-pronged funding model: Firstly, by forging partnerships with esteemed real estate brokerages, we leverage commission rebates from their closings as matching funds. Secondly, our direct fundraising endeavors complement these efforts. This holistic approach enables us to offer volunteer first responders access to LIHP's financial aid. Notably, Category I beneficiaries can obtain up to $26,000 for down payments and $24,000 for repairs, while those in Category II can secure up to $9,000 for down payments and $14,000 for home improvements. Through these concerted efforts, we strive to bolster homeownership and home upgrades for our community's dedicated heroes.
We work hand-in-hand with LIHP, but as an independent entity, our mission is distinct - to ensure that our frontline heroes, those who put themselves at risk for our safety, receive the financial support they rightly deserve. At Long Island Guardian Grants, we're making home ownership a tangible dream for those who serve us selflessly.
